Today I received some really sad news. I have a student named Timothy whose mom has been battling cancer for 6 years. Unfortunately, she lost her battle early yesterday morning. She was an amazing woman, poet, and mother and I am more than heartbroken over the news. She has 3 children, Timothy, Sierra-who was in my class 3 years ago, and Cody - 14 years old. Today, Timothy told me that he may not be acting sad, but he really is. He's just trying to be tough, because he knows that's what his mom would want :) He is a really bright student. Karen would attend every conference, back to school night, and every special event that the children had, even being pretty much wheelchair bound. In Timothy's most recent story, he named his mom as his hero. And I can see why as she was more than amazing. A few months ago, she sent me a few of her amazing poems and for today's blog I just want to share one of them and hope that anyone who reads it will not only find her writing as amazing as I do, but will really take the time to appreciate their own loved ones each and every day.
You will be missed, Karen.
Remember, you have an angel When feelings of lost hope
Hold troubled times in despair
Remember, you have an angel
Who will always be there.
When feelings of sadness
Seem overwhelming too
Remember, you have an angel
Holding a smile just for you
When it seems no one else
Could possibly care
Isolated from the world
Life seems so unfair
You feel no one else
Could possibly feel like you do
Remember, you have an angel
Who will always get you through
The love they hold is endless
As much as it is true
I know I have an angel -
My angel must be you.
